The Graduate School of Hong Kong Baptists University (HKBU) would like to cordially invite your students to apply for the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme 2013/14 (HKPFS)
Established by the research Grants Council of Hong Kong in 2009, the HKPFS aims in attracting the best and brightest students around the world to pursue their PhD studies in Hong Kong. As one of the participating universities of the HKPFS, the HKBU is always committed to promoting world class research. To strengthen the culture of research excellence, awardees of the HKPFS through admission to the PhD programs of the HKBU will be entitled to:
- A first year tuition waiver worth US$5,400;
- A two-year scholarship of US $10,800 to support the tuition fees for the second and third year of studies (subject to satisfactory academic progress);
- A monthly stipend of US$2,600 (for maximum of three years); and
- A conference and research related travel allowance of US$1300 per year (for maximum of three years).
The HKBU was founded in 1956 with a mission to provide quality higher education and has over 55 years of experience in providing broad-based and creativity-inspiring education. There are seven academic Faculties/Schools/Academy at HKBU, namely, Arts, Business, Chinese Medicine, Communication, Science, Social Sciences and Visual Arts. Students who are interested to pursue their PhD studies via HKPFS at the HKBU mus demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance; research ability and potential; communication and interpersonal skills; and leadership abilities. The application deadline of the HKPFS for the academic year 2012/2014 is 1 December 2012.
The 37th YMCA National Congress of College Students and 17th YMCA National Campus Club Advisers Seminar-Workshop, an undertaking of the YMCA of Manila through its College Work Department in coordination with the Commission on Higher Education will be held on December 5-9, 2012 at the Teachers Camp, Baguio City. To help the youth strengthen their sense of nationalism, this year's Congress adopted the theme "KABATAAN: PINOY KA BA?"
Over all, the Congress aims to redefine the Filipino identity and strengthen/reinforce the value of nationalism and love for country as well as develop strategic actions to uplift nationalist consciousness and sentiments. Around 500 selected student leaders and campus club advisers from all over the country are expected to participate in this event.

The Student Manual Committee, headed by the Univesity Council Committee on Student Organizations, ACtivities and Welfare, is in the process of finalizing the Student Manual. This manual serves as a guide for soncuct of the students and organizations in the University of the Philippines. The finalized draft will then be presented to the upcoming University Council meeting on November 19, 2012.
In this light, the Student Rights and Welfare committee would like to conduct a consultation with the different student formations, councils and individuals, on Friday, October 19, 2012 at the University Student Council Office, at 1:00 pm. This aims to inform the students of the salient changes in the draft, and to achieve substantail discussion and recommendations regarding the matter.
